New Spec Philosophy Revision

I never actually thought I would finish the spec in time for revision, so with a week spare before the external exams start, I am now frantically putting together revision lessons that will cover the topics quickly and efficiently, whilst still covering all the key must know elements with exam practice (I think I now need caffeine on a drip!)

This is how I am going to do it.

Lesson Plans:

(Follow same structure for Philosophy, Ethics and Christian Thought)

Student lead:

Give students out an A3 blank sheet. Fold into 3 columns. Label: Good to go I know, Sort of know, Panic: No clue.

Using revision packs work through each section on ‘Must Learn Information’ (just OCR spec requirements found on OCR website) and using post – it notes students to fill in each bullet point and stick it in relevant column.

e.g.

Then using text books, research and write notes in ‘Text Book Notes’ section (revision packs) starting with Panic: No clue areas.

Fill in glossaries and quizzes for each section.

Teacher lead:

Starting with the first topic in the revision pack, students in pairs and groups fill in quiz and glossary. Highlight any do not know areas. Teacher to fill in gaps/ explain areas not understood. Do this for every topic.five.PNG

Hand out Five Paragraph Rule sheet (table covering all topics). Plan 3-5 paragraph themes for each topic and go over ‘Potential Questions’ (found in revision packs)– could you answer them? Teacher to raise pointers and tips on how to answer questions.

Student lead:

Plan answers

Extras:

I ran a Saturday morning revision session covering New Spec Philosophy. This was my lesson plan:

Game of Scrabble. Student to pick a letter out of a bag of scrabble letters – challenge students come up with as many words linking with philosophy starting with that letter.

Student Lead:

Hand out Quiz Booklet containing C Grade Minimum questions. Students work through these in pairs and groups.

Teacher lead:

Worksheet with main parts of Teleo, Cosmo, Onto arguments all jumbled up. Using highlighters link arguments to topic. Teacher to go over answers and fill in gaps in understanding. Students go back over C grade minimum booklets – fill in gaps for three topics.

Worksheet with main parts of Aug, Iren and John Hick’s arguments all jumbled up. Using highlighters link arguments to right Theologian. Teacher to go over answers and fill in gaps in understanding. Students go back over C grade minimum booklets – fill in gaps for POE.

Worksheet with Religious Experience story themes. Students are to link different themes to relevant story e.g Born in France – St Bernadette. Teacher to go over answers and fill in gaps in understanding. Students go back over C grade minimum booklets – fill in gaps for RE.

Double check no final gaps in C grade booklet – one on one support provided. (I found students quite comfortable with Plato and Aristotle but needed a little extra help with Soul, Mind and Body)

Student Lead:

Hand out Quiz Booklet containing Higher Level questions. Students work through these in pairs and groups.

* I am currently putting together a lesson pack containing the Quiz Booklets and worksheets for the Extra Revision Session to save teachers time having to put these resources together.

This Quiz Pack (Revision Extras) can now be downloaded:
